Government Services for Indigenous Australians  information and links on services provided by the Western Australian government via the State library.   

 

WA Indigenous Family History Resources information from the State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) that guides people undertaking their family history. There is extensive information and links.

Australian Museum Stories of the Dreaming - site explores indigenous Australia through storytelling, cultures adn history. It also includes stories of the dreaming and teaching resources and content for students.

Sharing the True Stories: Improving Communication in Indigenous Health Care - this site is an archive containing information relating to the Sharing the True Stories Project. This initiative was to help improve communication between Health staff members and their Indigenous clients. 

  

Twelve Canoes - the 12 canoes website is about the Yolngu people of Ramingining. They are sharing their history and culture not only with future generations of their people but alo with the world.

 

Working with ATSI - Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and their Communities. This is a very good website if for students needing advice on Aboriginal culture.

Health Interactive Technology Network (HITnet) - HITnet is providing important information on health and wellbeing to disadvantaged communities. They are also helping to create and share media informations to help these communites as well as families and individuals.

  

National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organization - (NACCHO) - NACCHO is the Aboriginal health body that represents the Aboriginal Community Health Services Australiawide.  

 

South West Aboriginal Medical Services (SWAMS) - this site is provided by SWAMS, a health care service for the Nyoongar people.

  

Rural Health West - Rural Health West is a non for profit organisation funded by the State and Federal government. This site has a wealth of links to GPs, professional development, Medical bodies, National medical agencies, and the government bodies.

Ansearch Directory - Australian Aborigines and their culture and history.

 

AusAnthrop - Australian Aboriginal Database provides research, resources, and documentation.

 

Auseinet - Contains a list of archived documents stored in the National Libraries Australia Pandora site, (the previous Auseinet website is no longer operating).

 

Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration (AIJA) - A chapter from the Online ICA Benchbook called Aboriginal People in Western Australian. There is information about Western Australian tribes in this chapter.

  

Australian Bureau of Statistics - We found the best way to search for the topics on Indigenous or aboriginal health is to use the search facility at the top of the page.

 

Australian Human Rights Commission - The Australian Human rights commission have a section for Aboriginal and torres Strait Islander Social Justice. There are links for an information sheet, media releases, reports and the Close the Gap - Indigenous Health campaign.

 

Australian Indigenous Health Info Net  A series of guides have been developed to help different user groups find information relevant to their interests and needs (view user guides).  In this site’s home page on the top menu is a section on Health facts which are summaries and frequently asked questions, the answers to which often quote useful or interesting statistics. This site also has two avenues of presenting its news: HealthInfoNet News and Indigenous health news.

 

AIATSIS (Australian Institue of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Studies) 

 

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) - Topics covered include: aging and aged care, housing and homelessness, population health, alcohol and other drugs, mortality, diabetes and hospitals. Access is also provided to a number of data cubes and to METeOR AIHW's Metadata Online Registry. 

 

Department of Indigenous Affairs - This site deals mainly with environmental health and family and cultural issues. There is also a very useful Resource page (on the side bar) to do with aboriginal topics.

 

Diabetes WA - provides important information and links to sufferers of Diabetes and their families.

 

The Dr's Reference Site: Aboriginal Health in Aboriginal Hands - this site provides health related information and links for indigenous people.

 

Equal Opportunity Commission - The Equal Opporunity Commission site provides information about your rights and the procedure for complaints and inquiries as well as other important facts. 

  

Health Insite - an Australian medical directory that brings an information service to its users. This database contains access to a A-Z range of Health topics as well as information to conditions and diseases. Other links to consider include 'Health and Wellbeing', 'Life Stages and Events', and 'Health services' between the states.
